Dr. Shira FischerShira Fischer, MD, PhD, is a National Library of Medicine Fellow in residence with Harvard¹s Informatics Research Training program and a Clinical Informatics Fellow with the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center¹s Division of Clinical Informatics.
Shira received her undergraduate degree in biochemical sciences from Harvard College. After a fellowship year studying and volunteering in Israel, followed by three years working in health policy at the Institute of Medicine at the National Academies in Washington, DC, Shira returned to Massachusetts for an MD/PhD program at the University of Massachusetts. Her thesis research used electronic record data to study patient and physician factors associated with laboratory monitoring of high-risk medications prescribed in the ambulatory setting. She is interested in using health information technology to improve patient safety and outcomes.
